Paços de Ferreira is a municipality and city in Portugal. It is the seat of a circle ( concelho ) with 56 327 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011) on an area of 71 km ².

Paços de Ferreira is also called Capital do Móvel (Portuguese for capital of furniture), as many furniture manufacturing plants are also located here.

History

Finds indicate a prehistoric settlement. In the community Sanfins de Ferreira, the Citânia de Sanfins can be visited, the remains of a settlement from the Castro culture, which was remodeled by the Romans and even populated.

The present town was probably made in the course of settlement policy in the context of the Reconquista. The first mention of a local village date from the 11th century. In 1258, the place was already reported as Vila de Ferreira in the royal registers. King D.Manuel I gave him 1514 first town rights.

The independent circuit Paços de Ferreira was created in 1836, in the course of various administrative reforms of the Liberal Revolution 1822. Previously Paços de Ferreira belonged to the circle Penafiel.

In 1993, the former town ( Vila ) to the city ( Cidade ) was charged.

Sports

The football club FC Paços de Ferreira plays in the Portuguese Liga, the Primeira Liga. It plays its home games at the Estádio da Mata from Real. Trailers and assets of the Association are occasionally Os Castores (Portuguese for: The Beaver ) called, which is related to woodworking, with which the city is traditionally associated.

The first football team of the SC Freamunde, from the community Freamunde, playing in the second highest league, the Segunda Liga. Other clubs in the county are the Clube Desportivo Águias Eiriz in the community Eiriz, Clube Desportivo the Leões Seroa in the community Seroa, and the club Grupo Desportivo Cultural Leões Citânia from Sanfins de Ferreira. Their football departments all play in lower leagues at the district association level.

The city is connected by the A42 with Autoestrada Ermida and Lousada.

The public transport (PT ) is ensured by 15 local and regional bus lines of the local car Viação Pacense public transport company. This is part of the car since 1996 Viação Landim, a private company from Vila Nova de Famalicão, which operates the public transport of various districts of the region in public concession.
