Pak Kret

Pak Kret is a city in Thailand, and a northern suburb of the capital Bangkok. Since 2000, it has the administrative status of a major city ( thesaban Nakhon Pak Kret; เทศบาล นคร ปากเกร็ด ). With 178,114 registered inhabitants (as of 2010 ) it is the third largest city in the country.

Administratively, are among the city's five east of the Chao Phraya located Tambon ( sub-districts ) of the Amphoe ( district ) Pak Kret in Nonthaburi Province. Settlement Geographically Pak Kret goes without discernible boundary in the neighboring city of Bangkok on (districts Don Mueang and Lak Si) and the south adjacent town of Nonthaburi.

To the east of the city in 1989 created a large housing estate Muang Thong Thani and the Exhibition and Congress Centre IMPACT is the multi-functional hall Impact Arena, which is used for sports events and big concerts.

History

The area of the present town of Pak Kret has been inhabited since at least the 18th century. Around 1721/22 the then highly meandering course of the Chao Phraya River was straightened at this point, making the island of Ko Kret was born. On the shore and the mouth of the straightened section, the villages of Ban Noi and Ban Pak pedal pedal Noi emerged.

According to ancient local administrative law Pak Kret had in 1955 the status of a " sanitary district " ( Sukhaphiban ). In the context of industrialization and the rapid growth of Bangkok in the 1980s, companies and institutions due to lack of space, moved their headquarters outside the boundaries of the capital, as well as to Pak Kret. Infrastructure

The Open University of Sukhothai Thammathirat, an open admission distance learning university, has its head office in Pak Kret, as well as the International School Bangkok. In addition, the Thai Premier League football club Muangthong United is at home here. Since the 1990s, Pak Kret is connected via the Sirat Expressway with the inner districts of Bangkok. A cross- connection to the northern districts of Don Mueang and Lak Si ( with the airport Bangkok - Don Mueang ) consists of the Chaeng - Watthana Road. The Pak Kret Pier (N 33) is the northern terminus of the line of grünbeflaggten Express Boats on the Chao Phraya.
