Pakalitha Mosisili

Bethuel Pakalitha Mosisili ( born March 14, 1945 in Waterfall, Qacha 's Nek ) is a politician in Lesotho. He was Prime Minister from 1998 to 2012 in the country.

Life

Mosisili studied from 1966 to 1970 at the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland ( UBLS ) and moved to the University of Wisconsin in the U.S., where in 1976 a Master of Arts degree acquired thereafter.

Mosisili belonged to the Basotho Congress Party in 1995 and was deputy prime minister under Ntsu Mokhehle. Mokhehle founded the party Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) and resigned for health reasons from his post. His successor was Mosisili. After the 1998 election, he became Prime Minister, confirmed by the elections of 2002 and 2007. The LCD won each time an absolute majority in parliament.

On 23 April 2009 an attack on Mosisili was perpetrated, in which this was uninjured. One of the attackers was killed. In February 2012, he founded following a dispute within the LCD, the Democratic Congress party, with which he missed the absolute majority in the elections on 26 May 2012. He joined on 30 May 2012 from his office. On June 8, 2012 was sworn in as his successor Tom Thabane of the All Basotho Convention.
