Pallars JussÃ
The Pallars Jussà is located in the province of Lleida of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia (Spain). The community association has an area of 1343.1 km ² and 13,840 inhabitants (2009 ). Together with the Pallars Sobirà it forms the historical Pallars.
Location
The community association is located in the northern part of Catalonia, north of the provincial capital, Lleida. It is bordered on the north by the comarca of Alta Ribagorça and Pallars Sobirà to the east of Alt Urgell, in the south of Noguera, in the west of the comarca Ribagorza the Autonomous Community of Aragon. Together with the Comarcas Alta Ribagorça, Alt Urgell, Cerdanya, Pallars Sobirà and Vall d' Aran is the community association 's territory Alt Pirineu i Aran.
The Pallars Jussà situated in the Pyrenees. The high mountains, with peaks of over 2,900 m, occupies the entire north of the region. To the east is the mountain range Serra de Boumort, in the south the Montsec de Rubies and Montsec d' Ares. In this mountainous landscape are the valleys of the rivers Noguera Pallaresa Noguera Ribagorzana, Flamisell, aligned north-south. In the center of the region is the basin of Tremp ( cat. Conca de Tremp ). After the confluence of the Noguera Pallaresa and Flamisell the river in two dams, the Pantá de Talarn and Pantá de Terradets is dammed. To the west of the river Noguera Ribagorzana forms with the dam Pantá de Escales a natural border with the autonomous community of Aragon. On the east rises the river Riu Rialb
Economy
The economy of the Comarca is primarily characterized by agriculture and animal husbandry. Crops are corn, potato and feed in the basin of the tramp and fruit, almonds, olives and wine. In the higher layers are cattle, kept in the basin of the tramp sheep. The local industry processes their products. Gaining in importance of tourism.
