Palmieri (crater)

Palmieri is an impact crater in the southwest of the Moon front, southwest of Mare Humorum, west of the crater Doppelmayer and south of Mersenius. The rim is heavily eroded with an opening in the southeast. The largely flat interior of the crater is cross- crossed by the two main grooves of Rimae Palmieri.

The crater was officially named in 1935 by the IAU by the Italian meteorologists, seismologists and volcanologists Luigi Palmieri.
