Paltoga

Paltoga (Russian Палтога ) is a village in North-West Russia with 295 inhabitants ( as of 2002). It belongs to Rajon Vytegra within the Vologda Oblast.

Geography

Paltoga is located about six kilometers south-east of Lake Onega. Through the town, the regional road R37, which connects Paltoga with the 16 km eastern Rajonzentrum Vytegra runs.

History

The village was founded on 27 June 2001 by the merger of the villages Akulowo ( Акулово ) Aristowo ( Аристово ) Wasjukowo ( Васюково ) Kasakowo ( Казаково ) Korobeinikowo ( Коробейниково ) Kuznetsovo ( Кузнецово ) Paltogski Perewos ( Палтогский Перевоз ) Ruchtinowo ( Рухтиново ) Semyonovo ( Семёново ) Sucharewo ( Сухарево ) Tronino ( Тронино ) Ugolschtschina ( Угольщина ) Tschebakowo ( Чебаково ) and Jaschkowo ( Яшково ). With its foundation Paltoga undid the site Kasakowo as the administrative center of Selskoje posselenije Kasakowskoje from ( Сельское поселение Казаковское ).

In the All-Russian census in 2002 there were 295 inhabitants in Paltoga (135 men, 160 women), of which 99% were Russians. The rural community Kasakowskoje selskoje posselenije, which includes nine other villages, has a total of 524 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Infrastructure

The village has a school, several shops, two field shear points ( Фельдшерско - акушерский пункт ) which ensure basic medical care, two libraries and three cultural institutions. Furthermore, in the village cemetery with the 1733 -built wooden Epiphany Church are ( Церковь Богоявления Господня ) and the 1810 built stone church of the Mother of God Icon of the Sign ( Церковь Иконы Божьей Матери Знамение ) two Orthodox churches. Due to the lack of restoration work, the Epiphany collapsed into itself in 2009.
