Paolo Angelo Ballerini

Paolo Angelo Ballerini ( born September 14, 1814 Milan, † March 27, 1897 in Seregno ) was Archbishop of Milan and Latin Patriarch of Alexandria.

Life

Ballerini was ordained a priest in July 1837. In 1857 he was Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Milan. After Archbishop Bartolomeo Carlo Romilli suffered a stroke in 1858, he became deputy features.

After Romillis death made ​​him Pope Pius IX. on June 20, 1859 Archbishop of Milan. The population of Milan, however, refused to recognize him, and was supported by the Italian Government.
