Paradestraße (Berlin U-Bahn)

Metro Station Parade Street is a station on the U6 line of the Berlin U -Bahn. It is located in Berlin's Tempelhof district and was opened in 1927 as an airport.

History

The metro station was opened on 10 September 1927 and was the southern terminus of the line CII (today: U6) until the opening in 1929 of the subway station Tempelhof. It was designed by Alfred Grenander with a wide platform and a large vestibule, from which outputs led in the direction of the airport.

During the 1930s the already too small airport has been rebuilt and the new reception building of Ernst Sage Biel as part of the plans for the transformation of Berlin into the "World Capital Germania ". In January 1937, the metro station was renamed after the former parade ground of the Berlin garrison on the neighboring Tempelhof Field in Parade Street. The next station north Kreuzberg (now Square airlift ) was named Airport. The outputs from the airport to the train station parade street were closed and significantly reduces the porch; the closed part was later used by the Berlin transport for a shooting range.

In 1946 another name change to Franz Werfel road was planned and already shown on Maps, but never executed.

The train station

Today the subway station has three outputs: two sets of stairs on the west side of the temple Damm on the two sides of the parade street be achieved through a tunnel from the station lobby, and an elevator leads from the platform up to the east side of the temple Damm.

The station was originally sand -colored. 1990/91 it was redesigned according to a concept of the artist Gabriele Stirl.
