Features

Paramormyrops species are from 5.2 to 23.8 inches long. Your body is flattened elongated and laterally. The body height is 15 to 25 % of the standard length. The length of the head is about the body height or the head is a little longer. The " snout " (Region before the eyes ) rounded or slightly pointed, never tubular, seen from above the head profile U or V-shaped. The mouth is small and terminal or inferior. The teeth, five to seven in the upper jaw and six to eight in the lower jaw, are bicuspid or pincer-like. The fleshy " chin " is not available and is staffed with electric receptors. Like all mormyrids are Paramormyrops species for electric communication and electrical orientation capable. The nostrils are clearly separated and are from the eyes and the tip of the snout equal distance.

Dorsal and anal fin sitting in the rear half of the body and face each other symmetrically. Both fins are of equal length or the anal fin is slightly longer with some additional fin rays. The symmetrical arrangement of the dorsal and anal fin and the relatively short anal fin are the most obvious distinguishing feature of the genus Brienomyrus, which has a similar shape in which the anal fin is always much longer. Around the caudal peduncle, one counts 12 to 20 scales in Paramormyrops. The fish are inconspicuous, usually colored monochrome greyish or brownish.
