Paul Arndt

Paul Julius Arndt ( born October 14, 1865 in Dresden, † July 17, 1937 in Munich) was a classical archaeologist.

After graduating from the Cross High School in Dresden, he studied with John Overbeck Classical Archaeology at the University of Leipzig. Later he moved to the University of Munich, where he studied with Heinrich Brunn. In 1887, he was "Studies on vases customer " doctorate with the work.

With the promotion of his teacher Heinrich Brunn he got a job as a lecturer there in 1894. As such, he also served as editor of the series Monuments of Greek and Roman sculpture. First as an assistant at Brunn, then also worked at its successor Adolf Furtwängler, Paul Arndt lived since the late 1890s as a private scholar and art dealer in Munich. As a collector and art dealer he bought and sold antique art and was Belieferer renowned museums. 1918 Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria acquired its significant collection of antique gems, since 1958 it is in the National Coin Collection Munich. Its scientific estate is owned by the Institute of Classical Archaeology at the University of Erlangen.

Arndt was known primarily as a collector and dealer of antique sculptures. He sold numerous pieces to Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen.
