Paul Freiherr von Eltz-Rübenach

Peter Paul Freiherr von Eltz - Rübenach ( born February 9, 1875 in delusion; † August 25, 1943 in Linz am Rhein) was in the Weimar Republic and the National Socialist German Reich Reich traffic and Postmaster General.

Life

Born as the son of Fideikommissbesitzers and Captain retired Kuno Freiherr von Eltz - Rübenach and his wife Hugo Line, née Countess von Eltz, visited Paul Freiherr von Eltz - Rübenach the Humanistic Gymnasium in Siegburg, where in 1894 he graduated from high school took off, and studied mechanical engineering at the technical universities of Aachen and Berlin- Charlottenburg. After a one-year technical internship in the railway workshops of the railway department district of Cologne, he was trained from 1903 at the railway management Münster as Regierungsbauführer. From 1909 he was employed in the railway central office in Berlin. From 1911 to 1914 he was technical expert at the German Consulate General in New York.

In World War Eltz - Rübenach served in the railway field. 1916/17 he held himself to the reorganization of the Bulgarian Railways in the Balkans. From 1917 he worked on the staff of the Chief of Field railways.

After the war in the settlement in railway and transportation involved, he was appointed in July 1924 as President of the Reichsbahn Karlsruhe. On June 1, 1932, he was named Franz von Papen to transport and postal minister. He retained this position in the government of Kurt von Schleicher and after the seizure of power by the National Socialists.

Due to its Catholic stamp he maintained inner distance to the National Socialist Party and its exponents. After he had criticized in the cabinet meeting of January 30, 1937 attacks by the Nazis to the church and subsequently refused the Golden Party Badge, he was resigned and later rigorously monitored by the Gestapo. For a short time he and the board was painted after his wife had refused the mother cross.

Paul von Eltz - Rübenach was buried in the family vault of the grave chapel in the castle mania.

Family

Paul von Eltz - Rübenach was married to Marion von Hutier (1893-1980), the daughter of the Prussian infantry general Oskar von Hutier; from the marriage were born six children.
