Paul Williams (Boxer)

Paul Williams ( born July 27, 1981 in Aiken, South Carolina, United States) is an American professional boxer.

Career

The tall southpaw Williams had just 20 amateur fights and was established in 2000 under the name of The Punisher fight at the age of 19 years professional. It was built relatively slowly.

Williams qualified in 2006 with wins over the undefeated Argentine Walter Matthysse and former WBA light welterweight champion Sharmba Mitchell for a title fight. On 14 July 2007, he met the Mexican WBO titlist Antonio Margarito and beat him over twelve rounds on points. He already lost the title but in his first title defense on February 9, 2008, the Puerto Rican Carlos Quintana on points, his first defeat in 34 professional fights until then. In four months later held direct rematch Williams succeeded revenge by defeating Quintana by technical knockout in the first round and thus regained the WBO welterweight title.

On May 27, 2012 Paul Williams had an accident in Atlanta with his motorcycle and was hospitalized with serious injuries in the hospital. He is currently paralyzed from the waist down.
