Pavol Blažek

Pavol Blazek ( born July 9, 1958 in Trnava ) is a former Slovak athlete who took until 1992 for the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. At a height of 1.68 m his competition weight was 58 kg.

Pavol Blažeks greatest achievement was the European champion in the 20 km walk in 1990.

Career

His first international medal winning Blazek at the European Championships in 1982 in Athens when he won behind the Spaniard José Marín and his Slovak compatriot Jozef Pribilinec bronze. Also in the following years was Blazek mostly in the shadow of his compatriot. Only 1981, 1990 and 1991, he was champion of Czechoslovakia over 20 km. About this route he went in 1990 world record with 1:18:13 minutes. At the European Championships in 1990 in Split he won ahead of Spain's Daniel Plaza and the Frenchman Thierry Toutain.

The sport soldier took part in four Olympic Games and five World Championships, often both more than 20 kilometers and about 50 km. In his exceptionally long career, he was disqualified in any major competition, and only in 1982 in the heat of Athens he gave over 50 km along.
