Paweł Janas

Paweł Janas [ pavɛw Janas ] ( born March 4, 1953 in Pabianice ) is a Polish football coach and former football player.

Career

Player

Janas was during his active career central defender from 1974 to 1977 at Widzew Łódź. In 1978 he moved to Legia Warsaw. In Legia Warsaw he became a national player (in total, he played 53 international matches ), and participated in the World Cup 1982 in Spain part where the Polish national football team finished third. After the World Cup he went to France to AJ Auxerre and played there until 1986. During the same year he was voted the best foreign player in the French league. Then he returned to Legia Warsaw, where he played until the end of his career in 1988.

Coach

He made at the Sports University in Warsaw His physical education teacher diploma and was immediately after the end of his active career assistant coach at Legia Warsaw. In 1990 he went as a coach to the Polish Football Association. First as assistant coach of the Juniorennationalelf, then as assistant to the Olympiaelf that Barcelona won the silver medal at the 1992 Olympic Games. After the Olympics, the successful coach of the selection Janusz Wójcik went to Legia Warsaw and took Janas as assistants with. In 1993 he took over Legia Warsaw then as head coach in 1994 and 1995, twice Polish champion. His biggest international success was reaching the quarter- finals of the UEFA Champions League 1995/1996 with Legia. After that season he was coach of the Olympic team but failed to qualify for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney itself. When this had been decided in 1999, he became Manager for Polish Erstligaclub Amica Wronki. In 2001 he took over this club as coach.

In December 2002, he released surprisingly Zbigniew Boniek as national coach from, but failed to qualify for the Euro 2004 football championships in Portugal. Nevertheless, he remained coach and qualified with his team for the Football World Cup 2006 in Germany. Controversially discussed his decision in Poland, to renounce at the World Cup on the past Jerzy Dudek goalkeeper and the striker Tomasz Frankowski popular. After the disappointing departure for Poland at the 2006 World Cup ( From in the first round ) Janas was replaced by the Dutch coach Leo Beenhakker.

After that, he was from 2008 trainer of some Polish clubs in the Ekstraklasa ( GKS Belchatow, Lodz Widzew, Polonia Warsaw, Lechia Gdańsk).
