Peace, Unity, and Development Party

Kulmiye ( Somali for " solidarity ."; Complete name Kulmiye Nabad, Midnimo iyo horumar, Eng Peace, Unity, and Development Party, German about " Peace, Unity and Development Party") is a political party in the internationally unrecognized Somaliland. She was the larger of the two opposition parties, after the electoral success of its chairman Ahmed Mohammed Silanyo Mahamoud in the 2010 presidential election it is new ruling party.

Orientation

Chairman of the party is Ahmed Mohammed Silanyo Mahamoud, a former leader of the rebel movement SNM, who held several ministerial posts in the government of Somaliland under Muhammad Haji Ibrahim Egal. Also several other party leaders are veterans of the SNM, who had fought against the authoritarian government of Somalia Siad Barre and for the independence of Somaliland. The Kulmiye Party appeals to the patriotism of the voters and strives especially to women and young voters.

Like the other parties Kulmiye clan politically neutral and has members and supporters from all clans. Your election results have, however, indicated that they ( their sub- clan Sa ʿ ad Muse va), two sub- clans of the Isaaq, received especially from the Habar Tol Yes ʿ lo and the Habar Awal support. Election results

In the local elections in Somaliland, 2002, the party won 18.9 % of the votes and was therefore approved as the second largest party permanently. In the presidential elections in 2003 Kulmiye candidate Silanyo won 42.07 % of the vote and defeated so very close to the candidate Dahir Kahin Riyale the ruling UDUB, who was elected with 42.08 % of votes. The difference was 80 votes, and the media had assumed rather a victory of Kulmiye in advance. After weeks of tension Silanyo accepted the result but to the political stability 's sake.

In the 2005 parliamentary elections Kulmiye came to 34.1% share of the vote and thus 28 of 82 seats. It formed with the other opposition party UCID (Party for Justice and Development ) is a coalition that has a majority of 49 seats.

The 2010 presidential election won Silanyo with 49.6 % of votes.
