Pechersk (selo), Smolensky District, Smolensk Oblast
Petschorsk (Russian Печёрск ) is a village ( selo ) in Rajon Smolensk Smolensk Oblast in Russia. The town has 3884 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Location
Petschorsk is located about seven kilometers north of the Oblasthauptstadt Smolensk. North of the village runs the Russian highway M1, which runs from Moscow to Minsk. The village is the administrative center of the rural community Petschorskoje selskoje posselenije with four villages.
History
The name of Petschorsk can be derived from altostslawischen " печера ", which means, cave ' means, in relation to " caves " living a hermit. In the village is the church from 1768, dedicated in line with the place name to the Orthodox Saint Anthony of Kiev (Russian Antoni Petschorski ) and St. Theodosius.
