Peder Horrebow

Peder Nielsen Horrebow ( born May 14, 1679 Løgstør, Jutland, † April 15, 1764 in Copenhagen) was a Danish astronomer.

Life

Horrebow 1714 Professor of Mathematics at the University of Copenhagen. He was also director of the observatory of the University. In the years 1738-1739 and 1747-1748 he was rector of the University of Copenhagen. Horrebow developed a precision method of astronomy and geodesy for determining the latitude, the so-called Horrebow - Talcott method. This was rediscovered in 1833 by Andrew Talcott.

His son was the astronomer Christian Pedersen Horrebow ( 1718-1776 ).
