Pedro Figari

Pedro Figari ( * July 29, 1861; † July 24, 1938 in Montevideo) is a painter and politician from Uruguay, have shown particularly everyday scenes from Montevideo and the country whose images.

Life

Born in 1861, the son of Juan de Figari Lazar and Paula Solari, he is assistant to the Minister of Finance in 1885 and closes in 1886 his study of law as criminal and civil defense from. In the same year he married Maria de Castro Marmari. The wedding is followed by a long stay in Europe in the countries France, England, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Holland and Denmark. In addition, Figari began studying art with the Italian artist Godofredo Sommavilla in Montevideo. In 1893, he began his career as a journalist with the newspaper El Deber. In 1896 Figari is a deputy in Rocha. Two years later, he is State Secretary to the Partido Colorado after joining the Parliament. In 1899 he is deputy in Minas and is Vice President of the House of Representatives.

In 1905 he was made an honorary member of the International Conciliation and advocate of the Banco de la Republica ( until 1915 ). Four years later he was appointed board member of the Art Academy of Asistencia Publica National, 1911 Figari President of the river ports Society and Director of the National Traffic and Railway Company. In 1914 he was made an honorary member of the Uruguayan Artists Association and a member of the Comité France- Amerique. From 1915 he is director of the arts and crafts school, and as such responsible for the Reformation of the same according to his own plans of 1917. 1920 offers to him the post of Ambassador of Uruguay in Peru in which he rejects, however.

In 1921 he moved to Buenos Aires, where he devoted himself entirely to art. 1924 Figari founding member of the Association of Friends of the Fine Arts in Buenos Aires. A year later he moved to Paris, where he joined nine years dedicated to the planning of art exhibitions in Europe and America. 1927 dies his son and employee, the architect Juan Carlos Figari Castro. In 1928 he was appointed equipped with full powers Minister of Foreign Affairs in London, also appointed a Knight of the British Empire.

In 1933 he was appointed as Advisor to the Minister of Education and the Arts in Uruguay. As such, he is responsible for the free exchange of art between Uruguay and Argentina. He also returns in the same year returned to Uruguay. In 1934 he was appointed permanent member of the Cultural Union in Seville. 1938 is the last exhibition of his works in Buenos Aires held at the association Friends of the Arts. Three days after his return to Montevideo he died on July 24.
