Peggy Stern

Margaret Peggy Stern ( born September 22, 1948 in Philadelphia ) is an American jazz pianist and keyboardist.

Peggy Stern studied piano at the Eastman School of Music, gained in 1968 the Bachelor and then studied until 1970 at the New England Conservatory of Music. In the early 1980s she began her career as a jazz musician, worked in the octet of Julian Priester and with Richie Cole; they also played at this time in R & B groups and with Latin Music ensembles. In the early 1990s worked with Star Lee Konitz and guitarist Vic Juris ( Lunasea, 1992). During this time she also began to work with his own bands; Born in 1993, their first album with bassist Ben Allison Pleiades and drummer Jeff Williams. On their later albums Thomas Chapin, Harvie Swartz and Bobby Previte participated.

Stern taught from 1981 to 1989 at the Cornish Institute in Seattle, and from 1991 at SUNY - Purchase.

After Cook / Morton processed star in her piano playing influences of Lennie Tristano with elements of African, Jewish and Latin American music.
