Pélissanne

Pélissanne is a commune with 9585 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bouches -du -Rhône in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Pélissanne is located five kilometers east of Salon-de -Provence and 25 kilometers north- west of Aix -en- Provence. It is part of Agglopole Provence, an association of municipalities around Salon-de -Provence.

History

Already 6000 years ago the present site was inhabited. Later known as oppida emerged. In Roman times it was Pélissanne an important intersection. Here was, among other things, a channel that connected the place with the great Roman cities. Through the construction of a new channel agriculture in the 16th century flourished here. Water mills were built. In the aftermath Pélissanne was a place of rich, many houses of this period, the 17th and 18th centuries stand today.

Economy and infrastructure

Only about one kilometer from the village there is the ramp to Autoroute du Soleil. There you can also drive onto the A54. Still flows a channel between Pélissanne and Salon-de -Provence.
