Pentapolitana

Pentapolitana (or Hungarian Pentapolis ) was a medieval alliance of the five largest free royal city (Latin: civitas libera regiae, Hungarian: szabad királyi város, Slovak: slobodné Kráľovské mesto ) in the Kingdom of Hungary:

  • Kassa (today Košice )
  • Bártfa ( Bardejov )
  • Lőcse ( Levoča )
  • Eperjes ( Prešov )
  • Kisszeben ( Sabinov )

Today, these cities are located in eastern Slovakia.

The first meeting of the representatives of these cities took place in 1412. Final was the Alliance 1440-1445.

The main purpose of the alliance was the control and development of trade, because in the northeastern region of the Kingdom of Hungary - today eastern Slovakia - ran in several ancient trade routes. The leading city of the Alliance was Košice.

In 1549, during the Reformation, the Augsburg Confession Pentapolitana own variant of the Lutheran Confession formed in the five cities out.
