Pentti Sammallahti

Pentti Sammallahti ( born February 18, 1950 in Helsinki) is a Finnish photographer with worldwide recognition.

Life

Sammallahti occurred as early as a student at the Helsinki 1964 Camera Club. He began in 1970 to study at the University of Helsinki art history, musicology and mathematics without completing their studies. For three years, from 1970 to 1973, he headed both the black and white and color lab photographer Matti A. Pitkänen. After his first solo exhibition in 1971, he was invited to join the group Imago 6 in Helsinki. From 1974 to 1976 he taught photography at the Art School of Lahti. Sammallahti began in 1980 to systematically experiment with photographic reproductions and inkjet printing. From 1984 to 1991, he started at the University of Art and Design to teach printing techniques ( Aalto University today). Sammallahti made ​​numerous photo tours, inter alia, to Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia. In 1989 he undertook a photographic journey with Kristoffer Albrecht to China and Japan. Sammallahti photographed in black and white, often with a panoramic camera.
