Origin and History

During the British occupation of Menorca (1708-1802) dog fights were a popular national sport in the port areas of the Balearic Islands. Since the Ca de Bou otherwise guarded bulls and was used for the bull biting, he was usually the champion. When Bull Biting the task of the dog is to pull a full-grown bull to the ground. Following the ban on dog fighting and bull biting the number of representatives of this breed declined sharply. Breeders on the mainland saved the breed from extinction, so to speak, and showed these dogs at shows.
