Pestovo, Pestovsky District, Novgorod Oblast

Pestovo (Russian Пестово ) is a town in the far east of the Novgorod Oblast (Russia) with 15,903 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the Mologa - Scheksna lowlands about 310 km east of the Oblasthauptstadt Veliky Novgorod at the Mologa, a left tributary of the Volga.

Pestovo is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

The city lies on the completed in the 1930s railway (Saint Petersburg ) Mga Budogoschtsch - Owinischtsche ( - Sawjolowo - Moscow) ( kilometer 317).

History

The station settlement Pestovo was built around 1920 ( various details 1918-1925 ) in the vicinity of an ancient village of the same name in the construction of the railway line between Moscow and Leningrad as an alternative to previous Nikolai web.

On January 12, 1965, the scenic town charter was granted.

In Pestovo there is a factory for prefabricated houses and living containers, a sawmill the Finnish UPM- Kymmene and other wood- processing enterprises and a large dairy.
