Peter Kenilorea

Sir Peter Kenilorea KBE (* May 23, 1943 in takataka on Malaita, Solomon Islands) was twice Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands.

Kenilorea was trained as a teacher of the South Seas Evangelical Church. As a young man he helped the Solomon Islands in the founding of the United Party. He became chief minister in 1976 and helped to independence from Britain in 1978. He was then prime minister until 1981 and again from 1984 until 1986. From 1988 to 1989 and from 1990 to 1993, he was Foreign Minister of the Solomon Islands. He is still active in politics. Most recently, he was Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the Commission on Peace control for Malaita Iceland after riots broke out there in 2000. In 2004 there was an attempt to elect him as Governor-General, but he was just 8 of 41 votes.
