Peter Robinson (politician)

Peter David Robinson (born 28 December 1948 in Belfast ) is a Northern Irish politician and member of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP ). He has served as the first minister in the Northern Ireland government. He is also in the Northern Ireland Assembly since 1982 deputy.

Positions

Robinson joined the DUP in at its inception in 1971. Between 1975 and 1979 he was Secretary General of the party. For the first time in 1979 he was appointed as a Member of the House of Commons for the constituency of East Belfast. In all subsequent elections to the British House of Commons until 2010 he was able to defend this seat. At the general election in 2010 Robinson lost his constituency on the candidate of the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland Naomi Long. From 1980, he acted as deputy party leader Ian Paisley and was considered its close confidant. In this sense, he was opposed to the Good Friday Agreement. In the newly constituted government in Northern Ireland 2007, he was member of the cabinet and served as Minister for Finance and Public Service. When Ian Paisley in 2008 his resignation from the office of party leader and prime minister declared that Peter Robinson succeeded him in both positions. He was nominated by his party as prime minister and accepted by the Northern Ireland Assembly on 5 June 2008.

Criticism

The beginning of 2010 came in Robinson criticism in connection of an affair his wife Iris Robinson, who is also Member of the House of Commons. According to a BBC report, a ratio between Iris Robinson and a nineteen-year old, she had already developed previously supported. This they should have send money that came from contractors and they are not declared properly. According to the BBC report did Peter Robinson of these transactions and money, trying to work out that the monies will be returned. However, he has failed to make the (illegal) operations publicly, as it was his duty as First Minister. Peter Robinson put on 11 January 2010 due to the affair temporarily down their official business. Until 3 February 2010, he was represented by Arlene Foster.
