Peter Van Gaasbeck

Peter Van Gaasbeck (* September 27, 1754 in Ulster County, New York, † 1797 in Kingston, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1793 and 1795 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Peter Van Gaasbeck grew up during the British colonial period and attended grammar schools in Ulster County. He won over the years a great reputation in the County and New York. Van Gaasbeck went commercial transactions according to Kingston. During the Revolutionary War he served in the Ulster County Militia, where he first held the rank of captain and later a major. Politically, he was a member of the Pro- Administration Group. In the congressional elections of 1792, he was elected in the fourth electoral district of New York at the time which meets even in Philadelphia U.S. House of Representatives, where he became the successor of Cornelius C. Schoonmaker on March 4, 1793. Van Gaasbeck retired after the March 3, 1795 out of the Congress. He died in 1797 in Kingston, and was then buried at the First Reformed Dutch Churchyard.
