Peter Zezel

Peter Zezel ( born April 22, 1965 in Toronto, Ontario, † May 26, 2009 ) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who, from 1984 to 1999 for the Philadelphia Flyers, St. Louis Blues, Washington Capitals, Toronto Maple Leafs, Dallas Stars New Jersey and the Vancouver Canucks played Devils in the National Hockey League.

Career

Peter Zezel began his career as a hockey player with the Toronto Marlboros, for whom he played from 1982 to 1984 in the Ontario Hockey League. During this time he was selected during the NHL Entry Draft in 1983 in the second round than a total of 41 players from the Philadelphia Flyers. For the Flyers, he played until 29 November 1988 as he was released in exchange for Mike Bullard to the St. Louis Blues. There he remained for two years, before Canadians was transferred to the Washington Capitals. During his first season in the U.S. capital, he was issued on January 16, 1991 with Bob Rouse in exchange for Al Iafrate to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In Toronto Zezel remained until 1994, before he came to both the Dallas Stars of the NHL and for the Kalamazoo Wings of the International Hockey League in the following season for use. From 1995 to 1997, the Center again played for St. Louis, then to 1999, still with the New Jersey Devils and Vancouver Canucks of the NHL, as well as New Jersey's farm team in the American Hockey League, the Albany River Rats.

For family reasons, he finished his NHL career in 1999. From 2002 to 2005 he played again for the Cambridge Hornets in the OHASr.

2001 would Zezel almost died of hemolytic anemia, but recovered and was still being treated for the disease. Eight years later, his health deteriorated dramatically, so that he had to undergo chemotherapy and his spleen was removed. As a result, he fell into a coma, and was known on 26 May 2009, that the life support systems were turned off. He died on the same day in a clinic in Toronto.
