Petr Packert

Petr Packert ( born February 22, 1943 in Prague, † April 23, 2003 ) was a Czech football player and coach. He worked mainly in Greece and in 1986 he won with Panathinaikos double in league and cup.

Playing career

Packert began playing football as a younger student at FC Bohemians Prague. At 18, he began his military service and played the next two years for Dukla Prague, but without being inserted into the first team.

His Erstligadebüt gave the midfielder in the spring of 1964 in the game against VSS Košice. The Packert used later on the Vorstopper position remained the kangaroos to 1976 faithful, his career, he was then at the Prague club TJ Modřany finish.

For Bohemians Prague Packert played a total of 616 league, cup and friendly matches. In the 1st Czechoslovak league he ran 141 times and scored twelve goals.

Coaching career

His coaching career began in 1977 at Packert Czechoslovak U16 selection. He oversaw the team that had become the U18 1979 until 1981. From 1982 to 1983 he was responsible along with Milan Boksa for the U21 national team of his country.

In 1984 he went to Greece and was initially Manager, later coach at OFI Crete. In the 1985/86 season coaching the Czech Panathinaikos Athens and was very successful. The team not only won the Greek Cup but also the national cup competition. However, he was dismissed. Until 1989 Packert trained with a break Ethnikos Piraeus, in 1990/91 he worked at PAS Ioannina.

Two years later, he ventured a return to Bohemians Prague, at the beginning of the 1992/93 season he was hired as manager. As a coach, he took over the team in the second half of the 1992/93 season, but was released after the Hindrunde the following season 1993/94. Packert it moved again to Greece, this time to the second division Pagkorinthiakos from Corinth. The mid-1990s he returned once to the Czech Republic and trained short time Tatran Poštorná in the second league.

A quote on a bulk club got Packert not more, in 1997/98 he worked for ES Sétif in Algeria, 2001/ 02 he coached the South Korean team Chunnam Dragons. In addition Packert worked for Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa. After the 2002 World Cup, he worked at Skoda Xanthi, but not as a head coach.

Petr Packert died on 23 April 2003 in a Prague hospital of lung cancer.
