Petra Schneider

Petra Schneider ( born January 11, 1963 in Karl- Marx-Stadt ) is a German former swimmer who competed for East Germany.

Life

At 15, she won at the World Championships in 1978 in West Berlin behind Ulrike Tauber and Tracy Caulkins the bronze medal over 400 m medley. The following year she defeated for the first time over 400 m medley the hitherto best european Ulrike Tauber. At the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980, she was on her parade route Olympic champion. This success could confirm at the European Championships in 1981 and 1982 World Series in the next two years with victories. In 1984 she resigned from active competition. In 1989 she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.

Schneider married in 1988 weightlifter Ingobert child. After the turn she confessed, since she was 14 years old, to have received from their manager regularly doping preparation Oral Turinabol. In 2005, she called in the ARD program contrasts the deletion of its then existing German record about 400 m medley.

In 1980 she was awarded in the GDR with the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.
