Petrovac, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Petrovac ( Serbian Cyrillic Петровaц ) is a municipality ( Opština ) in northwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina. It belongs to Republika Srpska and was created by the separation of the eastern part of the municipality of Bosanski Petrovac as a result of the Dayton Agreement in Bosnia after the war. The actual town of Petrovac is located in that part of the old unit larger community, which today is part of the Federation. The administrative headquarters are Drinić.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Bosanska Krajina region on the northern slopes of the mountain range Klekovača about nine kilometers south of Bosanski Petrovac. About 90 percent of the municipality is forested; only a small area in the northwest around the place Drinić is open country.

The populated area is 730-760 meters above sea level, while the terrain rises to the south of the municipality up to 1,900 meters.

Population

At the last census in 1991 had the district Drinić of Bosanski Petrovac, which mainly forms the municipality of Petrovac in the Republika Srpska today, 363 inhabitants, including 362 Serbs. Throughout the rest of Bosanski Petrovac municipality was a Serbian majority, irrespective of however this was due to the front position with the Dayton Treaty Federation.

Infrastructure

The municipality can be reached by a paved access road from the main road six kilometers away 5 ( Bihać, Sarajevo).
