Trnovo ( Cyrillic Трново ) is a city in the east of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The unit municipality of the same name in 1995 separated by the specified in the Treaty of Dayton entities border into several parts. While the northern and southern part of the municipality to the municipality today Trnovo (RS) include in the Republika Srpska, forms the central part of the municipality of Trnovo ( FBiH) in the Sarajevo Canton. The place Trnovo itself is also divided between the two entities.

The place name comes from the Serbo-Croatian word Trnov for " thorny ".

Geography

The place Trnovo lies in the basin of the Željeznica between the heights of the Jahorina in the east, the Treskavica in the south and in the west Bjelašnica to 800 to 850 m. The municipality covers 600-1700- m height. Parts of northern municipal area belong to the National Park Jahorina.

The municipality Trnovo (RS ) consists of two spatially separated parts of the municipality. The northern part of the municipality around the places Jablanica and Kijevo and the southern part of the municipality to Trnovo be separated from each other by about 6 km wide corridor area of the Federation. The corridor represents the connection between Goražde and the rest of the Federation

The northern part of the municipality borders the municipalities Istočna Ilidža (East Ilidža ) and Novo Sarajevo Istocno (East New Sarajevo) in the north, the east and Pale Trnovo ( FBiH) to the south. The southern part of the municipality borders on Trnovo ( FBiH) in the north and in the south Kalinovik.

To the church Trnovo ( FBiH) limits Trnovo (RS ) in the north and south, Pale in the northeast, Foca - Ustikolina in the far east, Konjic in the southwest and Ilidža and Hadžići in the northwest.

Community structure

The municipality Trnovo (RS) includes the settlements Bogatići, grave, Jablanica, Kijevo, Klanac Milje, Podivič, Rajski Thu, Tošići, parts of Trnovo, Turovi, Ulobići and Vrbovnik. The remaining 50 settlements belong to the municipality Trnovo ( FBiH).

Population

At the 1991 census the entire parish had Trnovo (6 villages ) 6,991 inhabitants; them were 4,790 ( 68.81 %) Bosniaks and 2,059 ( 29.45 %) Serbs.

At the 2013 census, lived in the town of Trnovo (RS) and 2,192 in the Federation 1,830 community residents.

History

During the Bosnian war, the territory of the municipality Trnovo was hard fought. On one hand, used the Army of Republika Srpska during the siege of Sarajevo coming from South M 18 as a supply route for its forces in the main battle areas on the Igman and Jahorina; on the other hand meant the domination of the valley of Trnovo control of the southern access to Sarajevo.

From May to July 1992, the VRS held the place before he was taken after heavy fighting by the ARBiH. In the summer of 1993, the Serb forces were able to recapture parts again. After the war, all the places in the municipality were largely destroyed.

Economy

Industry plays in the wooded, mountainous area south of Sarajevo traditionally not matter much. The main economic activities were before the war, forestry and wood processing. Many residents commuted daily to Sarajevo.

Traffic

Trnovo located on the highway M 18 about 35 kilometers south of Sarajevo and 50 km west of Foca. On the southern boundary of the municipality, the road crosses the 1161 m high Rogoj Pass. The Sarajevo Airport is 25 km from Trnovo.
