Peyres-Possens

Peyre -Possens was until December 31, 2012, a municipality in the district Gros- de -Vaud in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

On January 1, 2013, it merged with the municipalities Chanéaz, Chapelle- sur- Moudon, Correvon Denezy, Martherenges, Neyruz -sur- Moudon, Saint- Cierges and Thierrens the new community Montanaire.

Geography

Peyre -Possens is located on 703 m above sea level. M., 17 km north-east of the canton capital Lausanne ( straight line ). The small village extends on a terrace east of the Taleinschnitts Mentue, Molassehügelland in the northern Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​1.9 km ² large former municipal area includes a portion in the extreme northeast of Gros de Vaud, the granary of the canton of Vaud. The western boundary is formed by the middle reaches of the Mentue that has been excavated in the course of time, a deep valley in the molasse. From here, the communal land extends eastward to the plateau plan Champ and the terrace of Peyre -Possens. Population

With 140 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Peyre -Possens was one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 89.5% inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 4.9 % and 4.2 % speak Albanian (as of 2000). The population of Peyre -Possens amounted in 1900 to 167 inhabitants. Thereafter, until 1980, by strong emigration a decrease to 107 inhabitants recorded; Since then, the population increased but again slightly.

Economy

Peyre -Possens was until the mid-20th century, a predominantly coined by farming village. History

The first documentary mention of the place Peyre was in 1228 under the name pairi; 1364 appeared the name Payri. The place name comes perrière ( from the Latin petrarium in the meaning of quarry ) to their dialect ( patois ). Possens has survived since 1220 under the present name. For later times the spellings Pussens and Pousens are ( in 1230 ) and Poss One ( 1238 ) testifies. This place name is derived from the Burgundian personal names Busso and means for the people of Busso.

In the Middle Ages the villages Peyre and Possens were in possession of the Lausanne Cathedral Chapter. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, they came under the administration of Kastlanei Dommartin, an exclave in the Bailiwick of Lausanne. After the collapse of the ancien régime Peyre -Possens belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Moudon.
