Pharez Whitted
Pharez Whitted (* in Indianapolis ) is an American soul jazz trumpeter, composer, music producer and high school teachers.
Pharez Whitted is the son of singer Virtue Hampton Whitted (1922-2007) and nephew of Slide Hampton. He grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from DePauw University before earning at Indiana University's Master. In 1982, he began his career as a musician, toured with Bobby Broom and worked throughout his career with Wynton and Branford Marsalis, John Mellencamp, Slide Hampton, The Temptations, The O'Jays, Lou Rawls, Ramsey Lewis and Elvin Jones; In 2008, he appeared in Indianapolis Jazz Kitchen. In the Motown jazz label MoJazz, for which he also worked as a producer, he released two albums under his own name. He now works as Director of Jazz Studies at Chicago State University.
