Phetkasem Road

Thanon Phetkasem ( Thai: ถนน เพชรเกษม, in English usage also Petchkasem Road or Thailand Route 4 - ทางหลวง แผ่นดิน หมายเลข 4) is next to the Thanon Phahonyothin, Thanon Sukhumvit and Thanon Mittraphap one of the four major highways in Thailand. With a length of 1274 kilometers, it is the longest highway in parts of Thailand and is a part of the Asian Highway AH2.

The name was Phetkasem the road after its completion on 10 December 1950 in honor of Luang Phetkasem Withisawasdi ( ก่ หลวง เพชรเกษม วิถี สวัสดิ์ ), the seventh director of the Thruway Ministry ( Department of Highways ) awarded.

Road

Thanon Phetkasem connects Bangkok with the Malaysian border in the south of the country, while it passes through the provinces of Samut Sakhon, Nakhon Pathom, Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Ranong, Phangnga, Krabi, Trang, Phatthalung and Songkhla. The extension from Amphoe Sadao forms the North - South Expressway ( NSE) of Malaysia.

Today the Thanon Phetkasem has partially lost its importance as a long-haul connection, as shorter links have emerged.
