Philibert Jean-Baptiste Curial

Philibert Jean -Baptiste Curial (* April 21, 1774 in Saint -Pierre- d'Albigny, † May 30, 1829 in Paris) was a French general of the infantry.

Life

Curial was a son of the lawyer François Joseph Curial (1740-1801) and his wife Marie Domenget. Inspired by the ideals of the revolution Curial joined the army at eighteen. Under General Jean -François Carteaux he fought in the revolutionary wars and could soon distinguished by bravery.

When Napoleon in 1798 his campaign to Egypt started to Curial reported as a volunteer. In Egypt he was able to turn excel and was promoted in 1799 to Chef de Battalion.

Curial led his own command at Austerlitz (2 December 1805) and then transferred in the same capacity for the Imperial Guard. He fought bravely at Jena (14 October 1806), Prussian Eylau ( 7 / February 9th, 1807 ) and Friedland (14 June 1807).

On March 14, 1808 in Paris Clémentine Curial married Marie, a daughter of the State Council Jacques Claude de Beugnot, and had by her three children: Joseph Napoléon ( 1809-1861 ), Marie Clémentine ( 1812-1889 ) and Adolphe Philibert (1814 - 1873).

At the battles of Aspern-Essling ( 21-22. May 1809 ) and Wagram ( 5 / July 6, 1809 ) he took part as well as the disastrous 1812 invasion of Russia.

There were other promotions to its use before Vauchamps (14 February 1814) and Craonne (7 March 1814).

Philibert Jean -Baptiste Curial died on 30 May in 1829, aged 57 in Paris and found his final resting place.
