Philippe Le Bas

Philippe Le Bas (* 1794, † 1860) was a French classical scholar.

His father, Philippe -François -Joseph Le Bas (1764-1794), was a French revolutionary, member of the National Convention and followers of Robespierre.

From 1820 to 1827 he worked as an educator of the future Napoleon III. and interspersed that this 1821-1823 the grammar school of St. Anna in Augsburg visited.

From 1844 to 1860 he was director of the Library of the Sorbonne. Since 1838 he was a member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles Lettres and 1858 President of the Institut de France.
