Physalis coztomatl is a plant of the genus Physalis (Physalis ) in the nightshade family (Solanaceae ).

Description

Vegetative characteristics

Physalis coztomatl are perennial, herbaceous or shrubby halbstrauchig growing plants that can reach a height of up to 2 m. They grow upright and branch already close to the ground. The whole plant is pubescent with simple trichomes, rarely glandular trichomes are among them, whose glandular tip is coffee colored. The stem is smooth, cylindrical, and is often bent horizontally in the upper part of the plant.

The leaves are alternate or in pairs, the leaf blade has a length of 5.7 up to 19 cm and a width of 3.9 to 17 cm. The shape of the leaf blade is ovate to almost globose ovate, the tip is pointed, the base is conical, truncated to almost heart-shaped. The leaf margin is ( even with one) occupied entire or with few teeth, rarely saw-toothed, the teeth are very prominent and pointed. The petiole has a length 1.4 to 6.5 cm.

Flowers

The flowers are individually. The buds are ovate, pointed, and are up to 12 mm long. For flowering time the flower stalk is 14 to 28 mm long. The calyx is large and wide, 11-15 mm long and at the base of the sepals 9-11 mm wide. Moreover, the chalice in lanceolate ovate, pointed to pfriemförmige, 8 to 13 mm long sepals is divided. The 1.5 to 2.4 cm long and 2.8 to 4 cm by measuring crown is yellow, bell-shaped, wheel-shaped to elongate, the seam is covered with trichomes. The marks in the crown are about 6 mm long, composed, coffee-colored, reddish or colored to purple. Fruits

To fruit maturity, the calyx enlarged to a length of 4 to 5.7cm and a width from 2.8 to 3.4 cm. The calyx is hairy and membranous. In cross section, it is zehnrippig, with five ribs are pronounced. The individual sepals are lanceolate-oval, towards the front pointed to pfriemförmig and 1.2 to 2.2 cm long. The fruit stalk has a length of 1.8 to 4 cm. The fruit is a berry having a diameter of 1.5 cm.

Phenology

Both flowers and fruits are formed over the entire year.

Occurrences and locations

The species occurs in many parts of Mexico, the distribution area is located in the states of Distrito Federal, México, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacan, Morelos, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro and Veracruz.

The sites are located at altitudes 2300-3100 m in temperate pine-oak mixed forests or in warm temperate mountain areas.

System

The type Physalis coztomatl is classified within the genus Physalis (Physalis ) in the section Coztomatae the subgenus Rydbergis. The species is similar Physalis Lassa. They resemble mainly by the dense pubescence, the zehnrippigen fruit cup and the crown with dark markings.
