Pidhirtsi

Pidhirtsi (Ukrainian Підгірці; Russian Подгорцы / Podgorzy, Polish Podhorce, German also Podhorze ) is a village in Lviv Oblast, Ukraine.

It is 24 km south-west of Brody in the direction of Lviv. The 399 meters above sea level in the preferred location offers a panoramic view to the north in the Volhynian level on the river Styx.

For the rural community and the village Sahirzi include ( Загірці ).

5 km northwest of the town Olesko lies with its castle, the birthplace of the Polish king John III. Sobieski.

The site by the château Sanguczko, surrounded by a large park ( " Ukrainian Versailles " ) became known. During the First World War, the castle was the temporary seat of the Fifth Corps Command of the German Army.

Beyond the park is dominated by the huge castle chapel Sunna, a kind of St. Peter's Basilica at the edge of Galicia. Podhorce today lies in Dörnröschenschlaf.
