Piel Emeraude

The Piel CP -30 Emeraude ( Emerald dt ) is a sports aircraft of the French designer Claude Piel.

History

The Emeraude was in competition with the Jodel D11 as simple and inexpensive sport aircraft. The first flight of the equipped with a Continental A65 boxer engine with 48 kW prototype F- WFVY took place on 19 June 1954. The later production model had changed except rudders and wings mostly the stronger Continental C90- 12F engine with 70 kW. The most frequently built version of CP- 301A received instead of a side -opening canopy a full view sliding hood, what visibility is considerably improved. In Germany the aircraft on October 1, 1958 were approved and produced for example by Schempp- Hirth and Binder Aviatik under license. It was built next to it in the UK and South Africa. The CP- 301E version followed in 1961 and was equipped with the more powerful Rolls-Royce turn Continental O -200 -A with 74 kW.

Construction

The Emeraude is a two-seat low-wing monoplane with fixed landing tailwheel in timber construction. In the wide fuselage, the seats are installed side by side and equipped with a dual control. The elliptical wing with NACA 23012 profile are with flaps, landing gear equipped with shock absorbers.

Use

The machine, with its flying capacity came as school, sports and tow plane for gliders used.
