Pierre-Hector Coullié

Pierre -Hector Cardinal Coullié ( born March 14, 1829 in Paris, † September 12, 1912 in Lyon) was Archbishop of Lyon.

Life

He attended the Seminary of St. Sulpice in Paris.

He was ordained priest on 23 December 1854. After his ordination he taught as a professor at a minor seminary in the archdiocese of Paris and worked as a pastor in the churches of Ste -Marguerite, Saint- Eustache and Notre- Dame-des- Victoires in the years 1854-1876.

He was appointed Titular Bishop of Sidon and Coadjutor Bishop of Orléans on 29 September 1876. He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of Paris, Cardinal Joseph Hippolyte Guibert, OMI, on 19 November of the same year; Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of Orléans, Félix Antoine Philibert Dupanloup, and the Bishop of Nancy and Toul, Joseph Alfred Foulon. After the death of Félix Dupanloup on October 11, 1878, he followed him. On 15 June 1893 he was appointed Archbishop of Lyons, and thus Primate of France.

On April 19, 1897 it took Leo XIII. as cardinal priest with the titular church of Trinita dei Monti in the College of Cardinals. He participated in the conclave of 1903.

He died on September 12, 1912 at the age of 83 years in Lyon and is buried in the cathedral of Lyon.
