Pierre-Joseph-Guillaume Zimmermann

Pierre -Joseph -Guillaume Zimmermann ( born March 19, 1785 Paris, † October 29, 1853 ibid, also Zimmerman ) was a French piano pedagogue and composer.

Zimmermann studied from 1798 at the Conservatoire de Paris with François Adrien Boieldieu and Luigi Cherubini. From 1811 to 1848 he worked there as a piano teacher. Among his pupils were Antoine François Marmontel, Charles Valentin Alkan, Ambroise Thomas, Louis Lacombe, Charles Gounod, Georges Bizet, Lefébure - Wély and César Franck.

He composed two operas (L' enlèvement and Nausicaa ), two piano concertos, a piano sonata, and numerous other works for the piano. He wrote the didactic work Encyclopédie pianiste du compositeur.
