Pierrelongue

Pierrelongue is a commune in the Drôme department in the Rhône -Alpes Region with 227 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011).

Geography

The community is located 25 kilometers north-east of Carpentras in the valley of the upper Ouvèze, this is quite narrow. North of the Ouvèze valley up to 650 meters high mountains, ten kilometers south-east of Pierrelongue rise rises the Mont Ventoux.

History

In the 12th and 13th centuries, the abbey of Saint -André de Villeneuve- lès -Avignon possessed lands of Pierrelongue what is considered the oldest record of the village.

In the typical Provencal mountain village Pierrelongue the Basilica Notre- Dame de la Consolation in the center is worth seeing. About the Ouvèze leads an old stone bridge.

Traffic

Until its closure in 1953 Pierrelongue had a station on the railway line Orange - Buis- les- Baronnies. Even today you can find near Pierrelongue some remains of this former range. Through the village leads the regional road D5, which connects Buis- les- Baronnies with Vaison -la -Romaine.
