Pingdingshan
Pingdingshan (平顶山 市) is a prefecture-level city with approximately 4.89 million inhabitants ( end of 2003), of which 3.66 million farmers. It is located in the Chinese province of Henan. It is the second most important carbon city of the People 's Republic of China. Pingdingshan lies at an altitude of nearly 200 meters and has a total area of 7874 km ². The city's name means "mountain with the flat top " and comes from a mountain whose summit actually forms a flat plateau. On the mountain a staircase with symbolic leads, auspicious 666 levels.
Administrative Divisions
Administratively, the city itself is made up of four districts, two urban districts and four counties together. These are:
- Municipality Xinhua (新华 区), 157 km ², 360,000 inhabitants;
- Municipality Weidong (卫东区), 103 km ², 290,000 inhabitants;
- Municipality Zhanhe (湛河区), 124 km ², 220,000 inhabitants;
- City District Shilong (石龙 区), 35 km ², 60,000 inhabitants;
- City Wugang (舞钢 市), 640 km ², 310,000 inhabitants;
- Ruzhou City (汝州市), 1573 km ², 960,000 inhabitants;
- Baofeng county (宝丰县), 722 km ², 480,000 inhabitants;
- Circle Ye (叶县), 1387 km ², 820,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Kunyang (昆阳 镇);
- Lushan county (鲁山 县), 2406 km ², 830,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Luyang (鲁 阳镇);
- Circle Jia (郏 县), 727 km ², 560,000 inhabitants.
Miscellaneous
The city is the seat of important coal plants. Other important industrial plants belong to a tire plant. Near the town there is a large reservoir, which is used in addition to the energy for fish farming. Pingdingshan has colleges for teacher training and for urban development.
Transportation is the industrial enterprises sufficient. There is a highway access and a people train. Bus routes to all major towns in the province. There is only a small central station, which is not enough for a major city.
