Pini Gershon

Pinhas " Pini " Gershon ( born November 13, 1951 in Tel Aviv, Israel) is an Israeli basketball coach. Most recently, he was manager until 2010 when Israeli series champion Maccabi Tel Aviv and the Bulgarian national team. He is one of the most successful basketball coaches in Europe due to its numerous national and international success.

Basketball Players

With 19 years Gershon began Maccabi Darom Tel Aviv to play the sister team of Maccabi Tel Aviv. He was considered a promising talent and quickly became a star in the reserve team. After a short time he managed to jump into the professional team of Maccabi Darom. In 1974, however, he had to end his career due to a serious injury.

Basketball coach

After his brief career as a player, he began working as a basketball coach. He held at Maccabi Rishon Lezion, Hapoel Galil Elyon Hapoel Gan Shmuel, Hapoel Tel Aviv and Hapoel Jerusalem a coaching job.

1993 he managed a rare feat in the Israeli Basketball: He gave Maccabi Tel Aviv on basketball throne and became Israeli Hapoel Galil Elyon with basketball champion. Since the season 1968/1969 it was possible no team, Maccabi Tel Aviv replace as a long -time champion.

In 1996, he led the team of Hapoel Jerusalem to win the Cup. Last but not least Gershons decisions in the final against Maccabi Tel Aviv led to the celebrated victory.

After these successes Maccabi Tel Aviv became aware of Gershon and hired him. Until his first foreign engagement at Olympiakos Piraeus went eight years in which Gershon with Maccabi Tel Aviv celebrated great successes. He not only won the national championship every season, but could 2001, 2004 and 2005, the highest European competition, the Euro League win. Previously, he won the 2001 competition once discharged, the Suproleague.

On June 29, 2006 Gershon signed a contract with Greek club Olympiakos Piraeus. Gershon has not been able to celebrate more success with Olympiakos and he was fired in February 2008 after a poor first round.

During his tenure in Greece, he accepted the office of the Bulgarian national team. He led the Bulgarian National Team sensational in the first round of the Euro Basket 2009.

In December 2008, Pini Gershon returned to the club with which he was able to celebrate the most success - Maccabi Tel Aviv. He solved the unsuccessful Effi Birenboim from a coach. The high expectations did not meet Gershon, he was after a successful 2009/2010 season by his former assistant at Galil Elyon and Maccabi Tel Aviv, the American-Israeli coach David Leaf, replaced.
