Pinos Genil

Pinos Genil is a municipality and a village in the province of Granada in southern Spain.

It is only a few kilometers from the provincial capital, Granada and is reached from there over the place Cenes de la Vega. It is located on the road that leads up to the Sierra Nevada, as well as between the rivers Genil and Aguas Blancas.

The foundation has already taken place in the period before the Arab rule in Spain, even if it was the Arabs who contributed a large part to agricultural use.

Immediately after the conquest of Granada in 1492 by the Catholic Monarchs ( los Reyes Catolicos ) during the Reconquista ( reconquest ) traveled by Columbus Pinos Genil. While crossing the bridge over the Genil he received the news that the Queen Isabel accepted his conditions for the voyage to India.

In the 17th century Enríquez de Jorquera Pinos Genil described as a place of hunting, winter fruit and sericulture.

Today, the town of many second homes, which can be explained by the proximity to the city of Granada.
