Pir (Sufism)
Pīr (Persian پير, old, wise man ') is in the Persian- and Turkish-speaking world and in India the honorable title of a spiritual master. It may be, for example, the founder of a Sufi order ( tariqa ), which is often regarded as the patron saint posthumously. The Persian title is the sheikh in Arabic. The Yazidis, however, is a distinction between Sheikh and Pīr because sheikhs and Pire form in the religious class system of Yazidis, which is hereditary families tied to two different classes.
