Pivarootsi (earlier spelling also Piivarootsi; German Paul peace ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Hanila ( Hanila vald ) in Lääne in Estonia.

Population and location

The place has thirteen inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It is located six kilometers south-east of the port Virtsu (Werder ), on the Baltic coast.

History

The settlement was probably founded in the 14th century by Livs. Piva means in the Liv language "holy."

1564/65, the settlement was first mentioned in documents as Randaby 1586 as Piwarotz. In 1885 the place in honor of the one year before the late Baron Paul von Hoyningen -Huene was renamed Paul peace.

The separate estate of Pivarootsi emerged in the second half of the 17th century, when the region was part of the Swedish krona. Last private owner before the expropriation in the course of the Estonian land reform in 1919 was the Baltic German nobility George Hoyningen -Huene. This single storey wooden mansion was probably built at the turn of the 18th to 19th century. It was built in the style of classicism. Today, there is a guest house privately owned again.

Windmill
