PKP class SU46

As a series SU46 the Polish State Railways call (PKP ) six-axle diesel locomotives haul for universal use.

History

Was begun before the end of the construction of the series SP45 (1976 ) to build two prototypes of a successor Series with higher power, electric train heating and a newly erected locomotive body. The two prototypes were completed in 1974 and received the designation Type 303D and the numbers SU46 -001 and -002. 1976 immediately after the end of construction of the SP45 series began series production of the SU46 series. The two prototypes were taken by the Polish State Railways in 1977 and 1978 respectively. By 1977, a total of 52 locomotives of the SU46 series were built. 1985 of two virtually identical locomotives were still re-stocked.

In 1975, a prototype of a more powerful version for up to 140 km / h was built, another followed in 1977. These prototypes were taken as the class SP47 series production was omitted.

The two prototypes were retired in 1990, some series locomotives followed. 2004 was home to only 38 in stock PKP SU46 and in the Bahnbetriebswerke Czerwieńsk, Gdynia, Olsztyn, Poznań and Wrocław. SU46 -011, -032, -037 and -048 were equipped in 2006 for use in Germany, in order to spare the locomotive changes in forestry and to allow the passage to Cottbus. At the same time these locomotives received the new painting of PKP Cargo.
