Metro Station Square Airlift is a station on the U6 line of the Berlin U -Bahn. It lies under the same course and the south end of Mehring dam on the border between the Berlin districts of Kreuzberg and Tempelhof.

History

The metro station was opened on 14 February 1926, the name Kreuzberg and was end of the line CII (today: U6). On September 10, 1927, the station lost its position as the terminus, since the distance to the Metro Station Parade Street ( former name: airport) has been extended. 1937 Metro Station Kreuzberg was renamed the airport since 1975 and the place is called the Airlift. Until the cessation of Tempelhof Airport in 2008, the Metro Station made ​​the connection to the urban transport network for the passengers.

The station has four entrances, access to the north ( Mehring Damm) and three entrances to the square of the air bridge.

The subway station was built according to plans by Alfred Grenander. He is one of only two subway stations in Berlin, who have no means of support. The second is the Metro Station Maerkisches Museum.

By 2016, the station should be accessible rebuilt and installed two lifts.

At the metro station is a transfer possibility from the U6 to the bus lines 104 and 248 of the Berlin Transport Authority.
